This past weekend was nothing short of incredible. Walking into the book convention, I knew it would be a busy, inspiring event—but I wasn’t prepared for just how much it would fill my heart. The energy in the room was electric: authors sharing their journeys, vendors showcasing their creativity, and readers eager to connect with stories that moved them. Everywhere I turned, there was kindness, talent, and genuine excitement.
For me, one of the best parts was the connections. As an author, I spend so much time tucked away behind a keyboard, so having the chance to meet people face-to-face—whether it was readers stopping by my table, fellow writers sharing their own paths, or vendors offering encouragement—was a gift. I left with a pile full of business cards and bookmarks, but more importantly, my spirit full of gratitude.
A few highlights worth celebrating:
- Katie at Nicole’s Downtown Salon & Spa: you worked your magic on my hair, and I can’t thank you enough. I was showered with compliments all day, and it gave me such a boost of confidence to walk into that room feeling my best.
- Kim: my lifesaver of a personal assistant! While I wandered to network, browse, and chat, you held down my table with such grace. Knowing everything was taken care of made it possible for me to fully enjoy the day.
- Author S.Z. Putnam: meeting you was like finding a kindred spirit. Your warmth and authenticity reminded me exactly why I love being part of this writing community. Swapping stories (and books!) with you was a highlight.
- Bee Batty Studio (CC): I was instantly drawn to your booth—your art is vibrant, beautiful, and filled with personality. I’m so glad we connected, and I’ll be cheering you on as your work reaches more people.
- Author Tracy Chipman: what a serendipitous meeting! I’m grateful our paths crossed in such an unexpected yet perfect way. I can’t wait to see where your journey continues to take you.
- My writing group gals: conventions are always fun, but sharing the experience with you made it even better. From laughter between sessions to cheering each other on, I’m so glad we did this together.
- Danielle, my giveaway winner: celebrating you was such a joy. I hope you love your mug and gift card, and that every time you sip from it, it reminds you of this wonderful weekend!
When I look back, what I’ll remember most isn’t just the books, but the spirit of community that filled every corner of the convention hall. It reminded me why I write—not only to tell my story, but to connect with others who are on their own journeys.
My memoir, Putting Myself Back Together: From Broken to Healed After Abuse, is about resilience, survival, and ultimately reclaiming your voice after hardship. Sharing that message in spaces like this means everything to me, because every conversation, every exchanged smile, and every new connection proves how powerful stories can be in reminding us that none of us are alone.
That’s also why I’ve launched my Books of Hope Fundraiser—to help get my memoir into the hands of survivors who may not otherwise have access. Every contribution helps provide a copy of Putting Myself Back Together to shelters, organizations, and individuals who need a reminder that healing is possible and hope is real. To everyone who stopped by my table, shared a moment, or swapped a story: thank you. You made this weekend unforgettable, and I can’t wait to see where the next chapter leads.
With love and strength,
Jamie
